We always say we are going to put things on this page, and then always forget.
Today, however, we have a good reason to throw words at you from the internet.
We received an email from Sled Island today, and we’re still in the running! They’ve updated our status to “interested” and we wait for final judgement day, which is April 12th. The best thing about this whole event is that we got some very nice words in our confirmation note that I feel compelled to share:
Thank you for the submission - it has really piqued our interest. This year, Sled Island received a very high volume of submissions, many of which were of unparalleled quality, so this really means something. … It is important to note that your application really is among the best we heard and that we think what you are doing is great. We encourage you to continue regardless of the outcome. Thank you for your submission and for your contribution to independent music making.
To say we’re excited is an understatement.
ALSO, in addition to this, we do have a couple shows coming up this month we thought we’d let you know of. The first is actually this Sunday (yay easter!) at Wunderbar. We’re playing with Cygnets and Real Boy (a side project of You Say Party! We Say Die! and OhNo Yoko from Vancouver, super cool) as well as trying out the new Venue at Transcend coffee on April 21st. The Transcend show doesn’t have an event page up yet, but like always, click the other link to find out more.
I’ve been avoiding doing prep work for a new job all day, however. I must bid you all farewell!

Let’s get Physicals, physicals…
We’re releasing the Black Car EP tomorrow at Wunderbar (show details HERE) and in order to make things fun/get people to come out/get people what they really REALLY want… I made 5 physical copies of the EP to give away for freezies. I spent some time with my craft kit while watching the X Games and came up with these guys:
They are all different pictures I took with my iPhone from random places in Edmonton and they all feature some wicked stamping action.

In the last month or so, we’ve been playing a ton of shows and getting to test out some new material. Today, we decided to rework parts of a song that we weren’t happy with.
We played that ONE SONG for TWO ENTIRE HOURS.
But it’s a lot better now.

Reviews are … in?
We’ve been getting some review-age going on for our EP. Some of it has been word of mouth, some of it has been blog style and some of it has been comments on our Facebook page. While pretty positive, we couldn’t help but notice we are getting compared to bands we really, really, really love. Like Arcade Fire:

For being a new band, the Souvs are already making a name for themselves. These cats really know what’s up, with a sound reminiscent of Best Coast and The Arcade Fire.
AND Tokyo Police Club (Which we were expecting moreso than Arcade Fire)
The initial poppy riffs have a great clean-tonal quality, albeit low-fi, but it will remind you of old Eric’s Trip releases, again just cleaner. The lead off It’s A Start is a Stars type number with male and female vocals both, but the album builds from there. Rather than just being a one dimensional keyboard/telecaster pop pony, this horse ends up as one of a darker colour. By the time you get to Is Is Is you see the more serious side of the Souvs. That in contrast to Connecting Flight which gives me more of a Tokyo Police Club vibe.
Ooops. We leaked our own album. That might be lame, but we did it.
What does this mean? This means that you can download our EP on our BANDCAMP starting right now. It is a free download, however you can opt to pay what you want if you want to for it. The money that we receive will be put towards mics to record our next EP (which is gearing up to be end of summer). Whether or not you choose to donate, we ask that you do the following:
Tweet it. Follow us on Twitter Facebook it. Follow us on Facebook Burn 16 copies and throw them at friends. Put it on torrent sites. Add us to playlists on CBC R3 Learn the words. Come to our shows.
It’s more important to us that people hear it. So download it and spread it like a wildfire! We will have links and download codes for our shows this week (June 9 and June 11) and links will be easily availible for anyone who needs them.
It’s taken a long time to get this finished, but we are all very proud and incredibly excited to say we did it.
